Ambassador Munter Inaugurates Three Schools Rebuilt by the U.S. Government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Mansehra: U.S. Ambassador Cameron Munter and his wife, Dr. Marilyn Wyatt, today joined with local officials and community leaders to inaugurate three schools in Khawari, Mansehra District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The schools were rebuilt with the support of the U.S. government’s Earthquake Reconstruction Program. “As the people and the Government of Pakistan chart your future, you can be sure that the people and the Government of the United States will stand with you,” Ambassador Munter told students in the new Government High School Khawari.

During the visit, Ambassador Munter and Dr. Wyatt inaugurated a boys’ primary school and a boys’ and a girls’ high school. During the ceremony inaugurating the girls’ high school, one of the girl students spoke to the assembled students, officials and community leaders: “This new building has brightened up our spirits and our future plans.

This is a dream come true.” There are 565 students currently enrolled in the three schools, up from just 350 enrolled students before the 2005 earthquake.

The U.S. government has provided $225 million in programs for reviving education and health care services to restore the livelihoods of those affected by the earthquake in 2005. This assistance is part of the United States’ long-term commitment to support Pakistan in the development of such key sectors as energy, education, and economic development, and increasing the self-sufficiency of the country’s communities, organizations, and institutions.
