Ambassador of Oman lauds the performance of Benazir Income Support Programme for poverty alleviation

Islamabad: Federal Minister/ Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Ms. Farzana Raja has said that the mutual cooperation between Pakistan and Oman in social sector should be further enhanced so that people of both countries can benefit from it. She emphasized on the need to build people to people contact between the two brotherly nations. She was talking to Oman’s Ambassador to Pakistan H.E. Mohammad Bin Said Bin Mohammad Al-Lawati who called on her here at BISP Secretariat on Monday.

Ms. Farzana Raja informed the visiting ambassador about the details of the various steps taken by BISP and said that the programme has successfully been able to bring revolutionary changes in the lives of nearly 6 million beneficiary families of BISP. The number of beneficiary families is expected to increase to 7 million once the ongoing nationwide poverty survey is fully completed, she further added.

Federal Minister and Chairperson BISP also informed the ambassador about various initiatives of BISP including provision of demand driven vocational training to its beneficiary families under Waseela-e-Rozgar scheme in line with job opportunities available both at national and international level. She presented the details of Waseela-e-Haq, Life insurance, Health insurance, and other innovative steps of BISP including Benazir Smart Card and Mobile Phone Banking and said that these steps are contributing significantly in poverty eradication.

Oman’s Ambassador to Pakistan H.E. Mohammad Bin Said Bin Mohammad Al-Lawati appreciated the performance of BISP and termed it as a very effective initiative in the social sector of the country. He assured MS. Farzana Raja of the support of the Government and people of Oman for the noble cause of poverty eradication in Pakistan.
