Karachi, August 30, 2015 (PPI-OT): Anti- Corruption Establishment (ACE) has registered 72 FIRs, opened 209 inquiries and arrested 52 officers of different departments against the charges of corruption, embezzlement and misappropriation of government funds within two months. This was disclosed in a presentation by Chairman (ACE) Syed Mumtaz Shah to Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the CM House today.
He told the chief minister that FIA and NAB have started sending him inquiries into land, revenue and local government matters such as illegal and double land allotments, bogus allotment files and such other forgeries and criminal acts. “So far I have received more than 40 inquiries and have constituted a two- member committee to scrutinize them and conduct through inquires so that action could be taken accordingly.
The chief minister directed the chairman that the matter being sent to him from FIA and NAB must be taken seriously and serious action be taken. “It is a good omen that the federal agencies have started posing confidence into ACE,” he said.
Giving details of the FIRs, inquiries and arrests the chairman ACE said that from July 22, 2015 four raids were conducted in Karachi South and arrested three officials and registered four FIRs. In Karachi East six FIRs have been registered and five accused were held. In West two FIRs registered, 26 inquiries initiated and four persons arrested.
He said that in Hyderabad four surprised visits in different departments were paid, three raids conducted, one was trapped, 17 FIRs were registered and 17 officers were arrested. He added that in Jamshoro 7 raids, two traps were made and nine FIRs were registered and 46 inquiries opened and eight officials of different grades were arrested.
Similarly, four surprise visits and seven raids were made in Mirpurkhas. As a result, eight FIRs were lodged and four officers were apprehended. In Shaheed Benazirabad eight surprise visits and two raids were conducted. In Sukkur five surprise visits and six raids were conducted, 13 FIRs were registered and 24 inquiries initiated and 9 officers were arrested.
The chairman said that In Larkana five raids were conducted, four officers trapped, 13 FIRs were registered, 135 inquiries were opened and eight officers were arrested. Giving details of the ACC-I held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Siddique Memon on August 19 some 82 cases were considered, of them 19 were approved for registration of FIRs, 36 for opening inquiries and decisions was taken on 27 inquiries to re-open them.
Referring the ACC-1 meeting held on August 24, Mumtaz Shah said 18 cases were considered, of them four were approved for registration of FIRs, six for opening inquiries and eight for re-enquiries. Replying to a question Chairman ACE told the chief minister that on his directives so far commissioners have held five ACC-II meetings in which 37 matters of Karachi West, 50 of district Jamshoro, 14 of Shaheed Benazirabad, 14 of Sukkur and 213 of Larkana were decided. “This shows that we had decided 328 cases of five districts which is itself a record,” Mr Shah said.
Replying to another question the chairman told the chief minister that most of the inquires are against the local government, education, health, works and Services, Irrigation and Revenue departments. Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah told the chief minister that he had initiated a process to computerize the record of anti-corruption establishment.
“Entire initiatives would be computerized right from receiving a complaint, process of inquiry, registration of FIR, arrest and other such other actions,” he said and added that such a software would be developed which would meet all our requirements. The chief minister appreciated the efforts and hard work of the chairman and his department and direct him to eradicate corruption from the government departments.
