Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has commemorated the martyrs of Gaw Kadal on the anniversary of the tragic event, where over 50 Kashmiris were killed by Indian troops in 1990 during a peaceful protest in Srinagar.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, APHC-AJK Convener Ghulam Mohammad Safi, along with other Hurriyat leaders, condemned what they described as a massacre, calling it an example of Indian state terrorism and oppression. They highlighted that, over the past 36 years, incidents similar to the Gaw Kadal massacre have occurred in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which they say tarnish India’s democratic image.
The Hurriyat leaders stressed that the memories of the Gaw Kadal massacre remain vivid among Kashmiris. They honored the martyrs’ sacrifices and expressed that the Kashmiri people owe a debt to those who died in pursuit of freedom.
Reaffirming their dedication to the cause, the Hurriyat leadership pledged to continue their efforts, calling on the international community and human rights organizations to hold India accountable and seek justice for the Gaw Kadal massacre.
They also demanded accountability for ongoing human rights abuses in the region, including arbitrary arrests, land confiscations, and efforts to change the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir.
