APHC leader arrested in IHK

Srinagar, May 22, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police have arrested APHC leader, Zafar Akbar Butt along with a half dozen activists in Pattan, today. Zafar Akbar Butt was on his way to Handwara to commemorate the anniversaries of prominent liberation leaders, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq in Handwara, today. The function was organized by the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference and Senior APHC leader, Bilal Ghani Lone.

On the other hand, the authorities continued to place the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest on fifth consecutive day, today. The APHC Chairman was scheduled to attend the function in Handwara.

The APHC spokesman in a statement in Srinagar while condemning the arrest of Hurriyet leaders described it as the worst kind of violation of human rights. He appealed to the international human rights organisations to take cognisance of the current situation of the occupied territory and restrictions on the movement of Hurriyet leaders.
