Mumbai, Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and a prominent Indian politician, has voiced strong criticism against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Population Register (NPR), and National Register of Citizens (NRC). He alleges that these measures are deliberately introduced by the Modi government to target minorities, Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs) within India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Owaisi’s remarks came after he presided over a party meeting in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. During his interaction with reporters, he stated, “The CAA has to be seen along with the NRC and NPR,” emphasizing that the combination of these policies poses a significant threat to vulnerable groups in the country.
The AIMIM leader referenced the NRC implementation in Assam, where approximately 19 lakh individuals were not included, suggesting a systematic approach to disenfranchisement. He highlighted that the Assam Chief Minister promised citizenship to Hindus through CAA while leaving minority communities to contest their cases.
Owaisi further pointed out that only about 5 percent of Indians hold passports, indicating that the policies could disproportionately affect the country’s minorities, Dalits, and tribal communities, causing them undue hardship and legal struggles within their own country.
