New york: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad has handed over Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar’s letter on India’s Indus Waters Treaty violations to President of the Security Council Leonor Zalabata Torres. The letter highlights concerns over two illegal Indian infrastructure projects linked to the Chenab River system, which are perceived as attempts to alter the treaty-governed flow and use of the Western Rivers, potentially affecting Pakistan’s water, food, and economic security.
According to Radio Pakistan, the letter emphasizes the urgent need for the Security Council to address the situation, urging it to hold India accountable for its actions. The projects are seen as a threat to regional stability and international peace and security.
Additionally, Ambassador Ahmad briefed the President of the Security Council on the broader situation in South Asia, particularly India’s ongoing non-compliance with its obligations under UN Security Council resolutions concerning the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
