Belongings of 8 Kashmiri students missing in Dehradun flat

Srinagar, March 15, 2019 (PPI-OT): Belongings of at least eight Kashmiri students studying at the Baba Farid Institute of Technology, Dehradun, who returned to the valley recently in the aftermath of the Pulwama incident last month, are missing after right-wing extremists vandalized their rented room in the vicinity of the institution.

Muhammad Asif, who is pursuing Master’s in Geography at the institute, talking to media men in Srinagar over phone said that the day they left for the valley, eight of them had kept their belongings inside a rented room at a flat in the vicinity of the institute.

“When we returned to the room a couple of days back, the lock had been broken. Almost all our stuff, including a laptop and other documents, has been taken,” he said. One of the students said that some of their items had been dumped inside the washroom of the flat. “None of the items is in place,” he added.

The students said the owner of the flat, who they said lives at a distance from the place, has given a free hand to the right-wing goons to vandalize the room after they returned to the valley. The students said, despite lodging a complaint, the local police are showing leniency as the owner of the flat himself is a cop.
