British Deputy High Commissioner Karachi and Trade Director for Pakistan and his team visit Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Sialkot, February 18, 2020 (PPI-OT):His Excellency Mr. Mike Nithaviranakis, British Deputy High Commissioner Karachi and Trade Director for Pakistan, and his team visited Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr. Muhammad Ashraf Malik, President SCCI welcomed the honourable guests and said that Pakistan and the United Kingdom had always enjoyed friendly relations that have evolved and strengthened over the last 7 decades. The President said that Pakistan and the United Kingdom had many commonalities and have forged alliances and partnerships mutually beneficial for both the countries.

Mr. Muhammad Ashraf Malik said that as per the Ministry of Commerce, UK was Pakistan’s third largest Export Destination; and also, the third-highest source of Foreign Direct Investment in Pakistan. Moreover, he suggested a few measures for the expansion of trade between the two countries which are (i) facilitation in single country trade exhibitions and encourage frequent exchanges of trade delegations, (ii) facilitation in investments and joint ventures in the value-added industries of Sialkot, (iii) signing of Memorandum of Understanding with prominent UK Chambers of Commerce and Industry in order to promote B2B linkages and both countries should negotiate a Free Trade Agreement beneficial to the Business Communities.

His Excellency Mr. Mike Nithaviranakis, British Deputy High Commissioner Karachi and Trade Director for Pakistan thanked President, Senior Vice President, Vice President and Executive Committee Members of Sialkot Chamber for a warm welcome and hospitality. H.E. appreciated the role of Sialkot in the Economic Development of the Country and having 10% share in the total exports. H.E. informed that British High Commission had initiated an outreach program for the facilitation of the people of different provinces of Pakistan.

After the historic decision of the UK to leave the EU, UK was focusing more to develop good relations with Pakistan, H.E. added. H.E. stated that it would be a huge opportunity of the UK based companies to invest in Pakistan. Moreover, he also ensured facilitation for his office for the Trade Delegation of Sialkot Chamber to UK in order to explore new markets and increase the exports of the Country. H.E. also appreciated the role of dynamic Business Leaders of Sialkot in contributing towards CSR Projects like, SDPT, SIAL and AIRSIAL.
