Srinagar, Celebrations erupted in Kupwara as supporters of Engineer Abdul Rasheed gathered in large numbers outside his residence in Langate to celebrate his landslide victory in the Baramulla parliamentary seat.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Engineer Rasheed, who is currently incarcerated in Tihar jail on charges his supporters claim are fabricated, won the seat by a significant margin. Sheikh Khursheed, Rasheed’s brother, thanked the electorate for their overwhelming support, emphasizing that the victory was a testament to the public’s will, showing that political office is not an inherited right. He noted the community’s strong backing for Rasheed’s ideology, particularly regarding the political future of Jammu and Kashmir.
The election results have intensified calls for Rasheed’s immediate release, with many viewing his win as a critical moment for the region. Despite being managed on a budget of just Rs 27,000, his campaign demonstrated significant grassroots support. This victory is also seen as a strong political statement by the voters against the current administration, challenging the legitimacy of India’s rule in the region through electoral participation.
