Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Launches “Safe Journey… Safe Punjab” Initiative

Lahore: In a determined effort to curb crime rates across Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has issued a stern directive to police officers to tackle crime under any circumstances, with a specific focus on road dacoity. The directive came during a special meeting aimed at reviewing and enhancing the performance of police officers throughout the province.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Chief Minister Sharif reviewed proposed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the police and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of roads and highways by cracking down on criminal hotspots. She also stressed the need for immediate actions to protect traders and shopkeepers from dacoity incidents.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, the Chief Minister declared that crimes, particularly those occurring on roads in both small and large cities, are unacceptable and must be addressed promptly. She also made it clear that police officers would be held accountable for any lapses in addressing these crimes.

The meeting was attended by senior provincial figures, including Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Home Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, and IG Police Dr. Usman Anwar, among others. The collective focus was on deploying stringent legal measures to ensure that every road and street in Punjab is safe for its citizens, particularly vulnerable groups like children and women, whom the Chief Minister referred to as her “red lines.”
