Karachi: Following the directive of Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed the health department in collaboration with the district administration carrying out extensive fumigation campaign in the city from 16th March. Besides the usual fumigation low lying areas, rivers and drains will be targeted in this campaign to eliminate the chances of spread of mosquitoes which are considered the sources of spreading malaria and dengue fever.
Chairing a meeting in this connection Municipal Commissioner KMC Matanat Ali Khan said that the fumigation campaign will be carried out in the current month to provide protection to citizens from the spread of malaria and dengue viruses.
The meeting was attended by Senior Director Health Services and District Municipal Commissioners. Municipal Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan directed all district municipal commissioners to ensure completion of all necessary arrangements in advance before the campaign kicks off in their district.
He further said that two spray vehicles will be provided to each district of city for fumigation campaign while the vehicles held by the district administration would also be used to make it a wide-ranging spray.
He said that the elected members of national and provincial assembly and noted social workers will be taken on board for this campaign and a public awareness campaign will also be carried along side to provide them with the knowledge about malaria and dengue fever and the precautionary measures in this connection.
Senior Director Health Services Dr. Shoukat Zaman said that special teams had been formed for the next fumigation campaign in the city with the arrangement of all necessary insecticides and machinery on district level. “The campaign will be carried out in the morning and evening time according to the requirement”, he added.
