Islamabad, The lives of people in occupied Jammu and Kashmir remain at the mercy of Indian troops, with custodial killings becoming increasingly common in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a Kashmiri youth named Imtiyaz Ahmad Pala was tortured to death by Indian police at Litter Police Station in Pulwama. The report highlighted that thousands of youth have perished in Indian army-run interrogation centers over the past 34 years in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Since 1989, Indian troops, protected by draconian laws, have killed 96,308 Kashmiris, including 7,336 in custody.
The report emphasized that custodial killings are intended to instill fear among Kashmiris, with frequent occurrences of fake encounters and extrajudicial killings. It accused the Indian government of violating international norms in IIOJK and called on global human rights organizations to address the gross violations perpetrated by Indian troops.
The report urged the United Nations to intervene and halt the ongoing genocide and custodial killings in the occupied territory.
