Karachi: December 22 should be marked as a special Scouts Day. This was stressed by the Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan, here on Thursday.
He was presiding over a Boy Scouts meeting held at the Governor House. The performance of the Boy Scouts movement was reviewed on the occasion besides taking up various other matters.
Dr. Ebad said that December 22 should also be marked as a special Scouts Day. He stated that this is the day when Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had taken oath as the first Chief Scout of Pakistan.
This, the Governor added, marked the beginning of the Scouting Movement in the country and as such this day should be marked in a befitting manner. The meeting was informed that a 44-member contingent from Sindh will take part in the World Scout Jamboree being held in Sweden from July 27. The contingent will be led by Prof. Anwar Ahmed Zai.
Meanwhile, 128 street children have been made part of the scouting movement and one of them named Osama will be the part of Sindh contingent for the World Jamboree. The Governor has especially invited these 128 children to the Governor House.
It was further pointed out that Dr. Ebad has approved scouting and camping at the Gorakh Hill in Sindh so as to expand the scouting activities. He also directed to allocate a piece of land for scouting at Gorakh Hill.
