DHL Pakistan mark Global Volunteer Day with its Core Programs GoGreen and GoTeach

DHL Pakistan, part of Deutsche Post DHL, the world’s leading postal and logistics group, today marked Global Volunteer Day 2011 with 950 employees taking part in various community-based activities; as part of its global drive to give back to local communities and to inculcate a passion for volunteerism among employees.

This initiative will provide recreational facility to the area people and will contribute in bringing health and harmony in the community.

In line with GoTeach program, DHL Express Pakistan had set up book ‘bins’ in DHL offices across Pakistan where employees made an enthusiastic and generous donation of children’s books. These books were then provided to five schools located in different cities of the country – Rehnuma Trust Karachi, City District Girls School Lahore, Hassan Academy Islamabad, Army Special Children School Sialkot and School of Special Education Faisalabad – and arranged at the schools’ libraries by DHL employees during school visits made on Volunteer Day. Over 1,400 children in these schools benefited from the cause.

”DHL has been relentlessly devoted to encouraging volunteerism because we strongly believe in giving back to the community. Social responsibility is imbedded in DHL’s corporate culture and we have a strategy that rests on three core programs – GoGreen, GoHelp and GoTeach. The picture of literacy in Pakistan is quite grim and this year the company has addressed this critical issue by promoting learning and education amongst the less privileged children in our society.” – Sarfaraz Siddiqui, Managing Director, DHL Express Pakistan.

While speaking to the media and the employees of DHL Global Forwarding Pakistan, Mr. Imran Shaikh, said, “Global Volunteer Day is a community-based initiative that supports our vision to invest in the communities where DPDHL operates in. For our employees, we want this to inspire the spirit of volunteerism, increase their engagement with the company and build their pride of association with DPDHL. In time, we hope this will become a platform for other businesses to take on roles to encourage the spirit of volunteerism and community-giving among their staff and as a key corporate initiative.”

To commemorate the Global Volunteer Day, DHL branch offices in Islamabad, Lahore and Sialkot has also joined the squad. DHL Lahore is renovating and painting class rooms in Govt. Gulberg High School (Lahore Cantt.); while Sialkot office has contributed by tiling the sidewalk for pedestrians and planting trees on Shahab Road. And DHL Islamabad has donated cash to a school being run by an NGO.

Introduced in Asia Pacific in 2008, Volunteer Day has expanded into Americas, Middle East, Africa and Europe over the years, and continues to build on its success by involving more employees than ever before. From 1 to 10 September this year, Deutsche Post DHL offices around the world are participating in many diverse community projects in support of various local causes.
