ECP Investigates Political Worker Killing and Polling Staff Abduction Allegations

Islamabad, The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has requested reports on the killing of a political worker in Narowal and the alleged abduction of polling staff in Qila Abdullah during the ongoing by-elections.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the ECP responded to requests from various candidates and the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party by asking the Provincial Election Commissioner of Balochistan and the Deputy Commissioner of Qila Abdullah for a detailed report on the alleged abduction of polling staff in PB-50 Qila Abdullah. Despite these reports, the Deputy Commissioner of Qila Abdullah verbally stated that no such incident occurred. The Election Commission has requested a written report to clarify the situation.

In a separate incident, the ECP took notice of the killing of a political worker during the by-election in PP-54 Narowal. The Chief Election Commissioner has personally contacted the District Police Officer of Narowal, instructing immediate legal action against the culprits responsible for the killing and requesting regular updates on the investigation.

The Election Commission’s prompt response to these incidents underscores its commitment to ensuring the integrity and safety of the electoral process, as well as its determination to address any incidents that threaten the security of political workers and polling staff.
