Election Commission of Pakistan Announces Campaign Silence Period for PK-22

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially declared a campaign silence period for the upcoming by-election in PK-22, Bajaur-IV. This mandatory quiet period will begin from the midnight falling between the 9th and 10th of July, 2024, and will last until the polls close on the 11th of July, 2024.

According to Election Commission of Pakistan, during this 48-hour period preceding the poll day, no campaigning including public meetings, processions, or canvassing within the constituency is allowed. The ECP has set these restrictions in compliance with Section 182 of the Elections Act, 2017, which mandates a quiet period to ensure the elections are conducted in a fair and orderly manner. The commission has warned that any violations of these provisions may result in fines up to one hundred thousand rupees, imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or both.

Political parties and candidates contesting in PK-22 are urged to adhere strictly to these regulations to facilitate a peaceful election process. The ECP has emphasized the importance of maintaining public order and the integrity of the electoral process during this critical period.
