Kupwara Residents Protest Over Chronic Water Shortage

Srinagar: In a significant protest, residents of Kupwara district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have publicly decried the ongoing water crisis that has plagued their communities for years, highlighting the authorities’ failure to provide basic necessities.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration centered in the Kandi area, where locals expressed their dire situation to media representatives. The area, encompassing eleven villages, has been without a reliable supply of drinking water for an extended period, affecting over five thousand individuals. The protesters lamented the severe impact of the water shortage, reporting that they have resorted to using potentially contaminated water from local streams, which has led to an increase in water-borne diseases.

The protestors articulated their frustrations with the water department’s inability to address their needs, despite the area’s pressing health risks and repeated appeals for intervention. They urgently called on the IIOJK authorities to take immediate action to resolve the water supply issues to alleviate their suffering and prevent further health complications.
