Elections no substitute to Kashmir solution: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, June 14, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that elections cannot be substitute to the resolution of Kashmir dispute.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq talking to media men on the sidelines of a Seerat conference, organised by the Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam in Islamabad town, said, “The elections whether parliament or assembly have been taking place since 1947 but these in no way have made any difference and have no bearing on resolution of Kashmir dispute”

He said elections are no alternative to resolution of Kashmir dispute and the fact has been acknowledged by pro-Indian political parties of Kashmir as well. The only solution lies in implementation of the UN resolutions, he added.

He said that New Delhi had never shown any seriousness for settlement of the dispute. “If the Indian rulers will move one step forward we will move two but the fact remains they are not ready to budge an inch,” Mirwaiz maintained.

Rejecting to the New Delhi’s dialogue offer, he said, “We met the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during a roundtable conference seven years back and it yielded nothing. Unless the ground situation in Kashmir improves, black laws are repealed, troops are sent back to the barracks and political prisoners are released, the holding of talks will be a futile exercise.”

The Mirwaiz said that pro-India political parties were playing politics over the revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act. The pro-India political parties of Kashmir were instrumental in bringing all the black laws to the territory and now they are befooling the masses for vote bank, he maintained.

He asked the pro-India parties to quit power politics and join pro-freedom ranks. “If the pro-India politicians are well wishers of Kashmiris and respect their aspirations they should shun power politics and join hands with us and be a part of our genuine struggle,” said Mirwaiz.

He said New Delhi is creating hurdles in becoming the Kashmiris economically self -sufficient. “We have plenty of water resources and would have been self reliable but New Delhi not only bartered them but did not allow the international bodies like World Bank to invest in Kashmir,” he said.
