Islamabad: Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Speaker National Assembly has said that Pakistan considers Norway as its trusted friend and an economic partner and wants to further strengthen its existing bilateral relations. She said that regular interaction between political hierarchy, people and parliaments of both the countries would further cement those ties. Dr. Fehmida Mirza was speaking to Mr. Robert Kvile, outgoing Ambassador of Norway to Pakistan who called on her in Parliament House, this afternoon.
Madam Speaker said that Pakistan appreciates Norway’s unwavering support in the hour of need. She said that economic cooperation between both the countries has witnessed increase, however it needs to be further enhanced. She also stressed for enhancing parliamentary ties between parliaments of both the countries. She complimented the Ambassador for taking the relations between two countries to new heights during his tenure as Ambassador. She was confident that the incoming diplomatic representative of his country would continue to strengthen the relations between both the countries.
Mr. Robert Kvile expressed his gratitude to Madam Speaker for her views and said that during his stay in Pakistan, he has found Pakistanis friendly, peace-loving and resilient who have withstood the test of time. He said that Pakistan has been negatively portrayed in west. He assured Madam Speaker that he would keep on portraying true image of Pakistan during his next diplomatic assignment.
Later, Ambassador of Tajikistan Mr. Zubaydullo Zubaydov called on Madam Speaker in Parliament House. Talking to the Ambassador, Dr. Fehmida Mirza said that Tajikistan and Pakistan were intertwined in bonds of religion, culture and history, therefore, Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Tajikistan. She said that Pakistan strongly desire to enhance its bilateral, economic and parliamentary ties with its brotherly country.
She said that both the countries have huge economic potential which needs to be exploited for mutual benefit. She said that regular interaction between the political hierarchy and trading communities of both the countries would be helpful in exploring avenues of possible cooperation. Dr. Fehmida Mirza said that parliamentarians of both the countries could also play an important role in creating better understanding between both the countries. She invited women Tajik Women MPs to visit Pakistan and interact with their Pakistani counterparts.
Ambassador of Tajikistan Mr. Zubaydullo Zubaydov agreed with Madam Speaker and said that his government also strongly desires to have congenial relations with Pakistan. He said that Tajik and Pakistani business communities were in regular contact and various agreements have been signed for mutual cooperation. He said that Tajikistan was keen to support Pakistan to meet its energy shortages.
