Establishment not to provide political crutches to Nawaz Sharif: Minister for Information and Broadcasting

Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said Saturday that the establishment would not provide “political crutches” to Nawaz Sharif for coming back in power.

Talking to a private channel, here she said that Nawaz Sharif’s attitude was negative like the past which was unfortunate. She advised the PML (N) leader that at a time when the government was trying to unite the nation, he should stop playing with the sentiments of the nation.

The minister said that Nawaz Sharif should have avoided meeting with United States Ambassador Cameron Munter as the time was not conducive for such a meeting.

Dr Firdous said that Mian Nawaz Sharif was indulging in point scoring as it was not in national interest. She also said that he did not play a positive role in the consensus reached last night.

She said that the government wants to take all parties along at this critical time. About Nawaz Sharif’s demand for presentation of defence budget in the Parliament, she said that since coming to power in 2008,the present democratic government was following this practice, and perhaps Nawaz Sharif is unaware about this fact.

The minister said that Nawaz Sharif is raising hue and cry against the establishment just because the establishment has given a clear message to him that unlike the past it would not support the PML (N)-League in future.

She said it were the agencies which backed and formulated the entire structure of his party’s footing which after the paradigm shift in their stance, it would not be possible for them to support political parties.

Quoting Army Chief she said that General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani was of the view that Army would not intervene in the politics, rather it would refrain from politics in future.
