Federal, Punjab Govts agree to establish task force to reduce electricity theft

Federal and Punjab Government have agreed to establish a dedicated task force at district level to reduce electricity theft across the province and improve the recoveries.

The agreement came during a virtual meeting between Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The meeting discussed collaboration between the two governments comprising through magistrates, police, intelligence, and prosecution experts.

It was decided to implement an incentive system to reward officials of provincial government who actively contribute to increased recovery from defaulters and reduction in power theft.

It was further agreed upon that strict measures would be taken against individuals including officials of DISCOS found involved in electricity theft.
