Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry wants Trade Development Authority chief from Private Sector

Islamabad, July 09, 2012 (PPI-OT): Haji Fazal Kadir Khan Sherani, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has reiterated FPCCI’s longstanding demand that the new Chief Executive of TDAP not only be appointed from within the business community of the country, but also in consultation with the apex trade body of Pakistan, i.e., the FPCCI.

He stated that the predecessor to TDAP, the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), was traditionally headed by representatives from the private sector, including stalwarts such as Mr. Wajid Jawad, Mian Habibullah and Mr. Hamid D. Habib, all of whom are still praised for their commendable performance.

On the other hand, the Vice Chairman of EPB used to be appointed from amongst the bureaucracy. But with the formation of TDAP, the post of chief executive was also handed over to the bureaucracy. FPCCI has always maintained that this post should be held by a representative of the private sector, and in the present situation, has reiterated that a replacement for Mr. Tariq Iqbal Puri be sought in consultation with them, to ensure that a suitable candidate is appointed.
