Karachi, October 03, 2018 (PPI-OT): The meeting No.4/2018 (ordinary) of the Executive Committee of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) was held simultaneously at FPCCI Capital House Islamabad (Chair), FPCCI Head Office Karachi and Regional Office Lahore , through video link which was presided over by Ghazanfar Bilour President FPCCI.
The meeting attended by a large number of members across Pakistan unanimously approved election schedule of FPCCI for the year 2019 and unanimously formed election commission consisting of Zubair Chhaya, Abdul Rashid Abro and Masood Naqi.
The Committee discussed various economic issues pertaining to the construction of dam. The House was critical about the FBR and FIA which was harassing the businessmen who had declared the assets under the tax amnesty scheme. The house also criticized the removal of discrimination between filers and non-filers. It also decided that FPCCI would go into litigation against the FBR for non-issuance of refunds.
After in-depth discussion the House unanimously adopted four resolutions tabled by Syed Mazhar Ali Nasir, Senior Vice President FPCCI. The resolution include:
1. Support to the Prime Minister’s initiative for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams and launch a campaign for collection of donation for these dams.
2. Condemnation of the harassment being made by FBR and FIA to those businessmen who have already declared their assets under the Tax Amnesty Scheme 2017-18.
3. The discrimination between filers and non-filers as removed in the Finance Supplementary (amendments) Bill 2018 be maintained and non-filers be restricted from purchasing property in excess of Rs40 lacs and high-end automobiles.
4. In pursuance of the decision of the previous EC meeting regarding inordinate delay in refunds (sales tax, DLTL etc.) FPCCI will go into litigation against the FBR.
Earlier Senior Vice President Syed Mazhar Nasir presented the report on the activities performed by the FPCCI in last three months. The House appreciated the performance, specially of R and D Department which conducted three roundtable conference on issues like Water Scarcity, Pak-China FTA and SMEs.
Meanwhile FPCCI has issued notice to its member Trade Bodies inviting nominations for the General Body and Executive Committee by Wednesday, 24th October, 2018, upto 5.30 pm in original at FPCCI Head Office, Karachi.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting include, S.M. Muneer, Former President FPCCI, Iftikhar Ali Malik, Vice President SAARC Chambers of Commerce, Senator Ilyas Bilour, Khalid Tawab, former Vice President FPCCI, Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Arshad Farooq, Shakeel Dhingra and FPCCI Vice Presidents, Waheed Ahmad, Zahid Saeed, Saeeda Bano, Chaudhary Irfan Yusuf.
