GBSA Protests Recruitment Practices at Jammu University

Jammu: The Gujjar-Bakerwal Students Alliance (GBSA) staged a protest at Jammu University in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the university’s recruitment process is violating reservation rules by allowing non-local candidates to apply for reserved posts.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the protesters allege that the university permitted candidates from other Indian states and union territories to vie for positions designated for indigenous communities, which they argue contravenes Supreme Court rulings. The GBSA is concerned that such practices undermine the reservation system intended to benefit Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Scheduled Castes (SC) in the region.

GBSA leaders maintain that the university’s actions directly violate constitutional provisions designed to safeguard the rights of local communities. Irfan Chaudhry, the GBSA President at Jammu University, voiced strong criticism of the university administration. “It is unconstitutional for Jammu University to sideline the reservation policy and discriminate against native tribal communities. The administration’s partiality is unacceptable and a direct violation of our constitutional rights,” Chaudhry stated in a media briefing.
