Berlin, In a pointed commentary on India’s internal affairs, Germany has expressed concerns over the inquiry into Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, labeling the scrutiny as an unjust act aimed at stifling dissent against the BJP Government. This statement emerges amid heightened scrutiny of Kejriwal by Indian authorities ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the German Foreign Ministry, responding to inquiries about Berlin’s stance on the alleged illegal detention of Arvind Kejriwal by the Modi-led BJP Government, underscored the importance of adhering to democratic principles and judicial independence. “India is a democratic country. We assume and expect that the standards relating to the independence of the Judiciary and basic democratic principles will also be applied in this case,” a spokesperson from the ministry stated, emphasizing the right to a fair and impartial trial for Kejriwal, as well as the presumption of innocence as fundamental to the rule of law.
In Delhi, Minister Gopal Rai announced plans for a significant protest by AAP members and supporters at Shaheedi Park, accusing the BJP of leveraging central agencies against opposition leaders. The protest, which will include candle marches and the burning of effigies, will also feature participation from representatives of the INDIA bloc.
