Government giving top priority to preserve historical buildings for future generation

Peshawar: Senator and Member National Finance Commission Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Haji Muhammad Adeel has said that the present provincial government was giving top priority to preserve the historical buildings for the future generation, its repair and renovation and the culture of the region alive to achieve this end huge amounts were being spent. He added that Peshawar was the oldest living city of the region.

These views he expressed while inaugurating the photo exhibition on the eve of International Day of Monuments and Sites at City House Peshawar on Thursday afternoon. On this occasion, Provincial Minister for Sports, Syed Aqil Shah, VC Engineering University Peshawar, Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, Secretary and Director Culture Department and a large number of people were present.

The snaps of historical buildings of Peshawar city and its surroundings including Gor Khuttree Tehsil, City House, Mohabat Khan Mosque, Qissa Khwani, Fort Balahisar, Mosques of Mughal era at Mian Gujar and ruins of Takhtbhai were included in the exhibition in which the spectators evinced keen interest.

Haji Muhammad Adeel said that Sikhs used Gor Khuttree Tehsil as their Headquarters in 1826 while the British established their secretariat therein. Haji Adeel added that the birth places of legend artists Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor was also there. He stressed the need that the government should purchase the ten historical houses situated in Sethi Mohallah and preserve it for the coming generation or at least ensure its maintenance.

Earlier, Haji Adeel inaugurated the photo exhibition by formally cutting a tape.
