Government Sindh declares “Jamshoro as Child Labour Free District”

Karachi, January 04, 2017 (PPI-OT):With the approval of the competent authority, Government Sindh has declared “Jamshoro as Child Labour Free District” and Labour and HM Department Government of Sindh will make all out efforts in collaboration with employers’ Organization and Trade Unions to create a Model District for eliminating the menace of Child Labour from Industrial and Commercial Establishments of District Jamshoro.

In order to implement this declaration, Task Force headed by Director, Labour, Sindh has also been notified with Additional Director, Hyderabad, Assistant Director, Labour, Jamshoro and representatives from District Administration, Police Department, Social Welfare officer, Jamshoro, representative from Civil Society, Nooriabad and Kotri Association of Trade and Industry and representative of Trade Union from Jamshoro as its members.

Accordingly, awareness programmes will be organized, Rallies will be brought at all centre points of the district industrial areas, pamphlets, brochures and other printed materials will be distributed among the concerned quarters. Rehabilitation schemes will also be initiated to provide financial assistance to the children of poor families for their school fees. Upon success of the schemes, the similar exercise will be replicated to other districts of the province.

Similarly, Labour and HR department has also prepared ADP scheme i.e. Child Labour Survey with the assistance of UNICEF and in this regard, Government of Sindh has allocated an amount of Rs. 54.00 million. The survey would be conducted by Sindh Bureau of Statistics, Planning and Development Department, Government of Sindh and will be completed by 31st December 2017.
