Govt Committed to Economic Growth: Khurram Schehzad

Islamabad: Advisor to the Finance Minister on Economic and Financial Reforms, Khurram Schehzad, has announced that Pakistan has achieved economic stability, with the government focusing on sustainable growth and long-term economic development. He made these remarks during the New Member Ceremony 2025 organized by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

According to a statement by Press Information Department, Schehzad highlighted the government’s economic reforms and noted the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) acknowledgment of Pakistan’s progress in implementing key economic measures. He emphasized that macroeconomic stability has been achieved, with economic indicators showing positive trends.

Schehzad discussed ongoing efforts to increase tax revenues and reduce unnecessary expenditures, stressing that fiscal discipline and sustainable growth remain top priorities. He pointed out that the government is actively working to attract export-driven foreign direct investment (FDI) to strengthen Pakistan’s economic foundation.

Regarding public sector reforms, Schehzad mentioned the government’s initiative to rightsize 43 federal ministries and over 400 attached departments to enhance efficiency and reduce financial imbalances. He reported that 150,000 vacant posts have been abolished where no inductions were planned.

He also addressed the privatization of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) as a measure to improve governance and efficiency. Schehzad noted a decline in inflation and an increase in foreign exchange reserves as positive developments for the economy.

In his speech, Schehzad congratulated the ACCA Pakistan team and new members, acknowledging their achievements in the finance and accounting sector. He extended special congratulations to Ms. Ayla Majid on her appointment as Global President of ACCA, recognizing it as a proud moment for Pakistan.

Schehzad encouraged young professionals to prioritize working in Pakistan, emphasizing that challenges exist both domestically and internationally, but success is achievable with passion, hard work, and discipline. He highlighted the role of youth as the driving force behind Pakistan’s progress and urged them to remain hopeful and positive about the nation’s future.
