Islamabad: The Federal Government has announced plans to implement significant reforms in the passport system. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Passport and Immigration Headquarters.
According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting resolved to transition fully to an E-passport system for issuing passports. Additionally, individuals utilizing premium services will be required to pay fees that reflect the actual costs of processing their passports. The plan includes introducing a cashless system in passport offices starting from the first of next month, alongside shifting online passport applications to the PakID App.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that the complete transition to E-passports will help eliminate fraud and forgery in passport issuance. He instructed officials to expedite the policy formulation for business passports in collaboration with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The meeting was also briefed on the progress of home delivery services for passports both domestically and internationally. Director General Passports and Immigration, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, provided a comprehensive overview of the current passport system to the Interior Minister.
