High Court Overturns Detention of Four Kashmiris Under Public Safety Act

Srinagar, In a significant ruling, the High Court of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has overturned the detention orders of four Kashmiris who had been held under the controversial Public Safety Act (PSA), marking a crucial legal victory for human rights in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the court’s decision mandated the immediate release of Ashiq Hussain Sheikh from Bhaderwah Doda, Yawar Ahmad Bhat from Pulwama, Sageer Ahmad, and Tariq Ahmad Sheikh from Srinagar, after finding the detaining authority’s justification for their detention under the PSA to be insufficient.

The judges highlighted that the detaining authority did not adhere to legal standards, failing to provide the necessary compelling reasons to justify the detention of the four individuals. Additionally, the court pointed out that the authority’s omission to furnish all the materials it relied upon in deciding to detain these individuals rendered the detention orders illegitimate and necessitated their release.
