Hindutva Groups Desecrate 600-Year-Old Dargah in Ahmedabad, Install Idols

Ghandinagar, Hindutva activists attacked and desecrated the 600-year-old dargah of Imam Shah Baba on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, demolishing graves and installing idols within the shrine.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the graves of Imam Shah and his family members were destroyed during the incident, which has sparked significant unrest in the Pirana village where the dargah is located. Residents who rushed to the site confronted the attackers, leading to a heated argument and subsequent stone pelting that injured four people.

Local police have detained 30 individuals in connection with the attack, which also involved the destruction of structures built over the graves. Azhar Saiyed, a descendant of Imam Shah and a resident of Pirana, voiced concerns over the lack of restorative actions despite demands from the community.

This attack is part of a broader pattern of targeted actions by Hindutva groups against Muslim places of worship in India, with the dargah having been listed as a target for “reclamation” by extremist organizations since the Babri Masjid demolition.
