Hurriyat Leaders Criticize Omar Abdullah Over Remarks on Modi’s Kashmir Visit

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and other Hurriyat leaders have criticized Omar Abdullah’s recent comments made during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). They assert that the disputed status of Kashmir remains undeniable by India or any global power.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas condemned Abdullah’s remarks, calling them an insult to the Kashmiris who voted for him with hopes of advancing their political rights. Minhas reiterated that the Kashmir dispute is an undeniable reality, regardless of India’s stance.

Several Hurriyat leaders, including Muhammad Yousuf Naqash and Dr. Musaib, along with political groups like the Democratic Freedom Party, also expressed disapproval of Abdullah’s position. They argued that Kashmiris supported the National Conference for its anti-Modi and pro-Kashmir policies and felt betrayed by Abdullah’s apparent alignment with Modi.

The leaders accused Abdullah of betraying the Kashmiri people, criticizing him for praising Modi, whom they hold responsible for the revocation of Kashmir’s special status and the erosion of its identity. They described Modi’s visit as an effort to further the anti-Kashmir agenda of the RSS.

The statement emphasized that Modi’s visit was not about development but rather a continuation of oppression. The leaders called for the right to self-determination through a UN-organized plebiscite and urged the international community to acknowledge India’s occupation and support the Kashmiri cause.

The APHC-AJK chapter’s convener, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, also criticized Abdullah’s remarks, suggesting they were an affront to the Kashmiri people and called on him to apologize. The criticism followed Abdullah’s praise for Modi during the Z-10 tunnel inauguration, which Hurriyat leaders viewed as deeply offensive to Kashmiris.
