Hydel Power Generation is Govt’s Priority: Nargis Sethi

Lahore, November 03, 2012 (PPI-OT): Federal Secretary Water and Power Nargis Sethi on Saturday said the government had planned to complete mega hydel power projects on priority for low-cost electricity.

Talking to representatives of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) and the Steel Melters Association at Wapda House, she said the government was making an all-out effort to provide electricity to all consumers including industrialists and commercial consumers.

She said the government was paying full attention to complete Diamir Bhasha and Dassu dams which could provide ample electricity, helping not only end power load shedding but also boost the economy.

She maintained that the Ministry of Water and Power was working day and night for keeping high standards of good governance, fight out corruption, remove line losses and improve the efficiency at every level in the ministry. She hoped that with improvement in governance and keeping a high standard working environment, the country could get rid of power load shedding in future.

To problems of the business community, Ms Sethi said, “The government is aware of problems of industrial and commercial sectors. It has decided to address the issues which are possible to resolve. For instance, from now on, payment of electricity bills by commercial users and the industry has been eased off. Industrial consumers of Punjab will be allowed to pay their bills on one due date.”

Assuring the industrialists about resolving issues of meter reading and billing, the Secretary said, “It is heartening to note that load shedding had decreased in the last three weeks.”

Earlier, the representatives lauded the effort of the government for increasing power production and reducing load shedding.
