IG Punjab’s Initiative for Vulnerable Groups: First Standing Order Issued

Lahore: Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has launched a new initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable segments of society by issuing the first standing order of 2025. The order outlines standard operating procedures (SOPs) for aiding mentally and physically disabled persons and transgenders.

According to a statement by Punjab Police, the standing order mandates the police to provide comprehensive support, guidance, and services to those affected by mental and physical abuse, gender discrimination, and crimes. The order emphasizes an immediate response to any crimes against these individuals, ensuring their rights, dignity, respect, and protection.

The statement further details that crisis intervention officers will be trained to engage with affected individuals courteously and calmly. In emergencies, the police are tasked with safely transporting mentally and physically disabled individuals to medical professionals and treatment facilities.

Dr. Anwar highlighted that the measures also consider the privacy and dignity of those involved, with strict adherence to SOPs during any criminal investigations. Female police officers will play a crucial role in assisting mentally and physically disabled women and transgenders, while the Additional IG Training will oversee the force’s preparation for these responsibilities.
