Impression that Government consulted Army Chief on Musharaf’s request for excluding his name from Exit Control List is misleading: Senator Pervaiz Rashid

Islamabad, April 03, 2014 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage/ Spokesperson of the Government, Senator Parvaiz Rashid has categorically denied reports carried by a section of media stating that the Government’s decision to reject the request of Gen ® Parvaiz Musharaf for removing his name from Exit Control List (ECL) was taken after consultations with Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif.

“The case of General Parvaiz Musharaf is subjudice and currently proceedings are before a court of competent jurisdiction. As such, any leading or conclusive public announcements or prejudgments would be a violation of legal norms and the principles of equity and justice”, added the Minister.

The Minister further said that some of the statements and interviews appearing in a section of media in this context are therefore unwarranted and unnecessary. The government firmly believes that the armed forces of Pakistan is a national institution and dignity of this institution cannot be compromised in any manner, what so ever. “Any insinuation, oblique or direct remarks about the institution are therefore regrettable”, concluded Senator Parvaiz Rashid.
