Pakistan and China Strengthen Cooperation with MoUs and CPEC Phase-II Focus

Islamabad, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with a high-level delegation from the Chinese International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), led by Chairman Luo Zhaohui. During the meeting, held in Islamabad, the Prime Minister welcomed the delegation and reiterated China’s status as Pakistan’s most trusted friend, appreciating China’s steadfast support during challenging times.

According to Press Information Department, Prime Minister Sharif specifically praised CIDCA’s significant role in supporting Pakistan’s economic development and its vital assistance during the 2022 floods, including relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts. He highlighted the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and its contributions to the socio-economic development of both countries. The Prime Minister emphasized that Phase-II of CPEC presents an opportunity for further industrial, scientific, and green development, encouraging private sector collaboration through joint ventures.

The Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, also attended the meeting, along with several federal ministers, including those for Foreign Affairs, Economic Affairs, Finance, Interior, and Planning and Development. SAPM Tariq Fatemi and other senior Pakistani officials were also present.

The meeting culminated in the signing of four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and a Letter of Exchange, demonstrating the deepening cooperation between Pakistan and China across various sectors. The agreements covered flood rehabilitation, information and communication technologies, Juncao technology, China-Pakistan Development Cooperation Planning (2024-2028), and a Protocol on Cooperation in Human Resources Development under the Global Development Initiative.

The MoUs and agreements reflect the strong commitment between Pakistan and China to work together on critical issues. The agreements signify a collaborative approach to economic growth, infrastructure development, and humanitarian assistance, further reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two countries.
