Australia’s High Commissioner Meets Pakistan’s Prime Minister to Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

Islamabad, High Commissioner of Australia H.E. Neil Hawkins paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif earlier today to discuss the state of bilateral relations between Australia and Pakistan. The Prime Minister noted that both countries share friendly and cordial ties and expressed his satisfaction with the current level of cooperation.

According to Press Information Department, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s interest in enhancing collaboration with Australia in agriculture, livestock, and mining. He extended an invitation to Australian companies and experts to share their knowledge and best practices with Pakistani counterparts. The Prime Minister also acknowledged the contribution of the Pakistani diaspora in Australia, including a significant number of students.

The High Commissioner reaffirmed Australia’s desire to strengthen ties with Pakistan and assured the Prime Minister of his cooperation. He also mentioned upcoming bilateral engagements, including visits from senior Australian defense officials to Pakistan. The High Commissioner expressed interest in bolstering sports and cultural cooperation, with a focus on cricket and hockey.

The High Commissioner commended the courage of Pakistani security guards during a recent stabbing attack in Sydney, where five women were killed. He acknowledged the bravery of the guards, one of whom lost his life while another was injured, and praised their actions for saving many lives.

The meeting highlighted the commitment to maintaining and deepening the relationship between Australia and Pakistan, with both sides expressing their intent to explore new opportunities for cooperation in various fields. The shared interests in agriculture, sports, and cultural exchanges offer promising avenues for strengthening the bilateral partnership.
