Indian Troops Accused of Martyring 11 in Kashmir in January

Srinagar: Indian troops have been accused of killing 11 Kashmiris, including six teenagers, in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) during the month of January, amid ongoing allegations of state terrorism.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, eight of the victims, including an elderly couple, reportedly died from water contamination in Budhal village of Rajouri, an incident attributed to actions by the Indian army. This occurrence has been cited as a stark example of the severe measures employed by the occupying forces against the local population.

In the same period, the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and local police arrested 37 civilians, targeting political activists, youth, and students. Many of those detained were charged under stringent laws such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Public Safety Act (PSA), which are criticized for stifling dissent and facilitating extended detentions without trial.

In addition to the arrests, Indian forces were reported to have damaged one structure, further intensifying the scrutiny over human rights practices in the region. The actions come amid a broader crackdown by the BJP-led Indian government, which has been under fire for its policies in Kashmir and their impact on the civilian population.
