Indian troops kill 26 Kashmiris in March

Srinagar, March 31, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops in their continued acts of state terrorism martyred 26 Kashmiris including one child during the outgoing month of March. According to the data released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, today, of those martyred, a school principal was killed in police custody at infamous Cargo Camp in Srinagar.

During the period, 251 people were critically injured when the troops used brute force on civilian protesters in different areas of the territory, while 148 persons were arrested in house raids and crackdown operations. The troops also damaged 51 residential houses during the month.

Hurriyat leaders Maulanal Abbas Ansari and Mir Shahid Saleem in their statements denounced arrest and harassment of Hurriyat leaders and activists at the hands of Indian forces. Two motorcyclists were injured when Indian soldiers opened fire on them in Bandzoo area of Pulwama district. The injured motorcyclists were taken to Pulwama hospital where doctors referred them to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.

Indian troops launched a cordon and search operation in Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Islamabad district. The operation was jointly launched by the Indian army, Special Operations Group and the Central Reserve Police Force in Panzath area of the district. Six people were killed and one was critically injured when a vehicle plunged into a deep gorge at Ujhan-Dhandkote in Darhal area of Rajouri district, today.

Meanwhile, in less than 24 hours, two Indian soldier committed suicide by shooting themselves with their service rifles in occupied Kashmir. A soldier identified as Ramphul Meena killed himself inside his camp in Solina area of Srinagar, today. Earlier, an officer associated with Indo-Tibetan Border Police also took his life in a similar manner in Tangmarg area of Baramulla district. These incidents raised the number of such deaths amongst the Indian troops and police personnel to 425 in occupied Kashmir since January 2007 till date.

On the other hand, India’s most famous novelist and human rights activist Arundhati Roy in a media interview criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being extremely reckless in carrying our airstrikes against Pakistan. She pointed out that India and Pakistan had become the first nuclear powers to bomb each other to put the whole world into jeopardy because of the unresolved Kashmir problem. She urged the world to turn its attention to the Kashmir dispute because of the dangerous situation in the region. Arundhati Roy said that if the world was concerned about the nuclear war then it would have to care about the Kashmir issue.
