Info Minister Calls for News Verification to Combat Fake News Challenge

Islamabad, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar emphasized the global challenge posed by fake news, advocating for the establishment of a code of conduct to address the issue effectively. His remarks came during a meeting with Zoe Ware, Political Counselor of the British High Commission, focusing on the critical need for journalists to ensure the accuracy of news, particularly on social media, before publication.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting took place in Islamabad on Thursday, where the two discussed bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including media, film, and drama. Minister Tarar stressed the importance of credibility verification in journalism and highlighted the role of a responsible press in safeguarding the truth.

On her part, the Political Counselor congratulated Minister Tarar on his new role and expressed her full support for strengthening Pak-UK relations across different domains. The discussions underscore the mutual interest in promoting ethical standards in journalism and enhancing the collaborative ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom in cultural and media engagements.
