International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Criticizes Indian Government for Undermining Martyrs Day in Kashmir

Srinagar: The International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Jammu and Kashmir (IFJHRJK) has publicly condemned the Indian government for diminishing the observance of Martyrs Day, a day of significant historical importance in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, IFJHRJK Chairman Muhammad Ahsan Untoo stated that the martyrs of 1931 were pivotal in revitalizing the Kashmiri resistance against oppression, with the subsequent events laying the groundwork for their ongoing freedom struggle. He criticized the Indian government’s decision to end the holiday, viewing it as an attempt to erase a crucial part of Kashmir’s history.

Untoo also highlighted the government’s prohibition of public visits to the martyrs’ graveyard on this day, including preventing families from offering prayers, which he described as a further insult to the Kashmiri people. The IFJHRJK has responded by filing a petition in the High Court to challenge the cancellation of the Martyrs Day holiday, vowing to continue its advocacy against such oppressive measures.
