Srinagar, March 28, 2019 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the Human Rights Commission has asked the police chief and Principal Secretary Home to submit their reports on the killing of a teacher, Rizwan Asad, in police custody in Awantipora area of Pulwama district, last week.
The commission issued the notices barely a week after it first asked the police to furnish a report into Rizwan’s killing in police custody that sparked outrage across the occupied territory. “Let in the first instance issue notice to principal secretary home and DGP submitting their report in the matter,” read the order issued by the commission.
Initial post mortem report of 28-year-old teacher had found that he had multiple injuries. The commission had also sought response from senior superintendent of police (SSP) Srinagar under whose area Asad’s custodial killing took place. The commission’s direction came following a complaint by rights activist Ahsan Untoo.
In his petition Untoo pleaded that “the deceased was arrested by police on 16th March 2019, and thereafter shifted to SOG camp – CARGO Srinagar during the intervening night of 18/19 March 2019, where he was killed in custody.”
Meanwhile, on the recent killing of a minor in Hajin, the commission also issued notices to Deputy Commissioner (DC) and SSP Bandipora to submit a detailed compliance report. A 12-year-old civilian boy, Aatif Mir, was killed during a cordon and search operation by Indian troops in Hajin area of Bandipora.
