Ishaq Dar meets Finance Minister of Iran

Islamabad, October 13, 2014 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with the Finance Minister of Iran Mr. Ali Tayyebnia on the sidelines of World Bank/IMF Meetings in Washington. Senator Dar conveyed personal regards of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the President and Supreme Leader of Iran.

Both the Ministers agreed to hold Joint Economic Commission in Islamabad soon, with particular focus on gas pipeline and electricity, to consolidate the bilateral cooperation as agreed between the leaderships of the two countries.

Senator Dar informed that the government has approved the 700 kilometers section of the pipeline from Gwadar to Nawabshah and that Pakistan is considering various alternatives to meet the financial requirements. The Iranian Finance Minister appreciated the resolve of Pakistan in completing 700km portion of Iran-Pakistan Gas pipeline and expressed hope that in future more pipeline projects between the two countries, may materialize.

The Iranian Finance Minister expressed his gratitude for Pakistan’s resolve in forging a long term cooperation between the two countries. He especially mentioned positive attitude demonstrated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for boosting ties between the two countries.
