Islamabad Committee Reviews Interior Legislation and Development Projects

Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Interior, chaired by Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, convened its third meeting at Parliament House today, addressing a variety of legislative amendments and significant infrastructure projects underway in the capital.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the meeting commenced with a tribute to the recently assassinated Deputy Commissioner of Panjgur, Zakir Baloch, and proceeded to discuss several legislative matters including the deferment of “The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2024” and the referral of the “Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Bill, 2024” to the Council of Islamic Ideology for expert opinion. The committee also passed the “Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2024.”

On the development front, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman briefed the committee on multiple projects such as the expansion of Islamabad Expressway and the construction of new underpasses. The committee expressed its intention to inspect these projects firsthand and directed the CDA to update building regulations and provide a detailed report on land allocations by private societies for public utilities.

The meeting also touched on cybersecurity, with directives given to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to intensify actions against social media misuse and to propose legislative amendments to strengthen cybercrime enforcement. Additionally, the integration of police jurisdictions in Karachi was discussed, with the Home Department of Sindh being tasked to report on the matter in the upcoming session.
