Islamabad Secures Progress in Talks with Jamaat-e-Islami, Announces Subsidies and Releases

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar reported significant progress following discussions with Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, indicating several resolutions and mutual agreements that align with the government’s objectives. The negotiations, held in Rawalpindi, have led to tangible outcomes, including the planned reduction of electricity prices and the release of detained party workers.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the recent talks have yielded positive results, with immediate actions such as the release of Jamaat-e-Islami’s detained workers in Sialkot. Minister Tarar affirmed the government’s recognition of the democratic right to protest and mentioned that a follow-up meeting is scheduled to continue the dialogue.

The discussions have also focused on economic measures, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif committing to a significant subsidy to ease electricity costs. A 50 billion rupee subsidy will be provided to consumers using up to 200 units of electricity for the summer months, addressing public concerns over rising energy prices. Furthermore, in response to issues with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), a task force has been established to review and rectify the concerns under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister.
