ISSF General Assembly approves nominating Prince Abdulaziz AlFaisal as Federation chief

Jeddah The General Assembly of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) on Monday unanimously approved the nomination of Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki AlFaisal as the new ISSF president, replacing Turki bin Abdulmohsen AlSheikh who has resigned recently.

In his inaugural address to General Assembly, in the attendance of the representatives from 57 Islamic nations, Prince Abdulaziz promised that he would re no effort in promoting ISSF activities in the Muslim countries.

“We will combine our efforts to improve the value of sports for the achievement of our goals and objectives,” he said.

The prince stressed that ISSF should be active, effective and charismatic in its approach in terms of its programs and tournaments. He noted that he was of the view that the Federation had to exercise creativity with its goals.

The new president disclosed that the future of the ISSF plan has to be aligned with the improvement of international sports by providing financial resources, forging partnerships with specialized centers, qualifying talented youth and production of creativity.

“We in ISSF will work strongly in enhancing tolerance, moderation and peaceful coexistence among the youth of Ummah,” Prince Abdulaziz said.

The nomination of Prince Abdulaziz as president of the ISSF was approved Monday during the extraordinary meeting of General Assembly held Monday in Jeddah. The prince, who is the chairman of the Saudi General Sports Authority, replaced former President of the Federation Turki AlSheikh.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki AlFaisal will be at the helm of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation for the next three years (20192021).

The objective of ISSF is to supervise over the organizing of a multisport event, called the Islamic Solidarity Games held once every four years, and to organize tournaments and championships among the sporting teams in the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Established in 1985 with its permanent headquarters in Riyadh, the Federation is currently active in the preparations for the fifth Islamic Solidarity Games, be organized in the Turkish city of Istanbul in 2021.
