Japanese Ambassador hands over emergency relief goods to Chairman National Disaster Management Authority

Islamabad: As the enormity of recent floods and the consequent damage to life and property, especially in Sindh, stretched the available resources of government of Pakistan, the President of Pakistan formally appealed for assistance to the international community.

In response to this appeal, the Japanese government provided emergency relief goods for the flood affectees of Sindh which arrived at Hyderabad for distribution among the affected population.

In conjunction with the arrival of these goods, a formal ceremony was held in Prime Minister’s Secretariat. In the auspicious ceremony, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan H.E Hiroshi OE handed over the list of these goods to the Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Dr. Zafar Qadir. The aid included 3,500 tents and 1,006,900 water purification tablets.

As a gesture of goodwill and humanitarian concern for the flood affected people of Sindh, the government of Japan announced provision of emergency relief goods worth US$ 450,000 on the 9th of September, 2011.
