Japanese Ambassador pays Farewell call on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

Islamabad, June 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): Japan’s ambassador, H.E Hiroshi Oe, paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz sharif at Prime Minister’s office this afternoon.

The Japanese Ambassador congratulated the Prime Minister on the assumption of his office as the chief executive of the country. The Ambassador also conveyed a message of felicitations and best wishes on behalf of Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe.

The Prime Minister appreciated the positive contribution made by H.E. Hiroshi Oe during his tenure as ambassador in Islamabad in further promoting Pakistan-Japan relations, especially in the field of trade.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan attaches high priority to its relations with Japan and expressed the desire to take these relations to further heights.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan-Japan relations are of great importance to Pakistan and that Pakistan regards Japan as an important friend and a development partner.

Underlining the need to raise the level of trade between the two countries which is currently at $ 2.1 billion, the Prime Minister noted with concern that the trade balance is heavily tilted against Pakistan and expressed the desire for its rectification through concrete measures.

The Prime Minister said that the existing trade imbalance can be addressed by lowering tariff rates for Pakistan textiles.

The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the government of Japan for its assistance in up gradation of Unit 1 and Unit 4 of Mangla Dam.

The Prime Minister also sought Japan’s assistance in energy projects in Pakistan like Diamer Bhasha, Kurram Tangi Dam, Munda Dam and other small and medium dams.

Hailing Japan’s achievements in the fields of science and technology, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan is keen to learn from Japan.

The Japanese Ambassador termed his stay in Islamabad as fruitful and fulfilling and said that he would take rich memories of Pakistan back home.
