Japanese Consulate’s Election Observation Mission monitors General Election in Pakistan

Islamabad, May 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): On May 11th, the Consulate General of Japan at Karachi conducted the election observation to monitor the voting at some polling stations in Karachi. Mr. Akira Ouchi, Consul General, along with 2 officials visited selected polling stations and observed Pakistani people casting the ballots.

The Government of Japan decided to support the consolidation of democracy in Pakistan in response to the announcement by the Election Commission of Pakistan that it would welcome international observers.

The mission, headed by Mr. Nobuaki Tanaka, former Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan, grouped in teams comprising outside experts, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan as well as the Consulate General of Japan at Karachi. In addition to Karachi, the observation mission teams conducted monitoring in polling stations in Islamabad and various places of Punjab province including Rawalpindi and Lahore.
